The renovation of a 1960's split level home in McLean, Virginia. The client preferred a clean, modern aesthetic with an open plan and a variety of materials. The left side of the house was preserved for economy and the right side was expanded and built up to provide a large master suite on the new fourth floor. Part of the third floor was opened just left of the entry to provide an open spacious core with a den below. A new great room was provided at the rear for privacy and to connect to a new landscaped garden in the backyard. A large roof terrace above the third floor, a roof garden over the garage and a master bedroom balcony provide for maximum utilization of space and variety of outdoor experiences.
