This is a proposed pool and pool house on a rise just above the flood plain of the James River. The design was inspired by Pablo Picasso’s cubist painting “Guitar Player” as well a nautical theme based on site context. The wind or water swept wood form combines with rigid angularity to create a subtle cubist composition. In an effort to obfuscate the distinction between interior and exterior the first floor completely opens on three sides to create a fresh and breezy outdoor lounge. On the second floor a den with fireplace, TV lounge and hanging sleeping loft are reminiscent of an elegant and spacious yet cozy tree house. Just outside the den a sky lounge with and oversize U-shaped sofa, fire pit, shuffleboard, corn hole and garden provide for an ultimate evening al fresco experience.
