A proposed carriage house for the Venable neighborhood of Charlottesville. The simple two-story gable structure was designed to contrast yet compliment the existing house on the site, creating a juxtaposition and dialogue between old and new. The carriage house faces SSW to provide sunset views, capture afternoon light all year long and to be a good neighbor by facing the street. An open studio with vaulted ceiling and a loft accessible by ladder offers an intriguing sleeping space. Natural wood materials with dark windows and trim help to blend a contemporary aesthetic with one of the most iconic and traditional forms of a quaint home.
